The new year offers a natural transition, ending one chapter while beginning anew. It is a time to pause, reflect, and celebrate- and Dignitas has a lot to celebrate! From refining our program approach, to expanding our impact, 2018 was a dynamic year for the Dignitas team.

In 2018 we:

Through our flagship program, Stawisha Institute for School Leaders, Dignitas supported 71 school leaders and 6,949 students across 21 partner schools in Kangemi, Kawangware, Kibera, and Satellite. Stawisha fellows received continuous professional development support through monthly leadership trainings, real-time coaching, and professional learning communities (PLC). Dignitas’ leadership coaches provided nearly 100 hours of training and over 900 hours of coaching support!

As a result of this targeted support, all school leaders demonstrated significant growth across the content domains. In our partner schools, teachers are implementing student engagement strategies, working collaboratively, and creating systems to help all students thrive and succeed. Teachers have grown tremendously in self-efficacy and pedagogy, ultimately increasing their effectiveness and instructional leaders. According to one fellow, “[Stawisha has] made me improve on my teaching methodology. I have gained new insights which help me in classroom management and I can now work together with other teachers and share my ideas with them.”

2018 also marked the beginning of the end of our partnership with this cohort of Stawisha schools. Soon, fellows will graduate and join our alumni network, and a new cohort will begin in April 2019. With all that happened in 2018, the Dignitas team is eager to sustain the momentum into the new year. Stay tuned to see what lies ahead for 2019!
