At Dignitas, we aim to create lasting change. Our Partnership Progression gradually develops skills, attitudes and beliefs in educators that enable them to independently drive school improvements and development. We are passionate about empowering educators to transform schools in Kenya. Our partner schools are in the process of transitioning into Phase Two (We Do). In Phase Two, partner schools take on responsibility for initiating learning and development. We’d like to share with you what our partners have to say about this!

“With Dignitas, I have changed a lot. I wasn’t confident as a Head Teacher; in fact, I was planning to quit! When I came for the Leadership Training Institute, I became confident. I felt empowered, and my teachers and I are now working as a team. We share information and are able to achieve more. We can do more ourselves after learning from Dignitas.”

Agnes, who we featured in a profile piece last year, has been a teacher for 7 years, and is serving her third year as the Head Teacher at Alpha Glory. Coming from a large family, Agnes understands the struggle of overcoming obstacles to education. She dreams of a day when her pupils can help improve their families’ circumstances.
“When I first started working with Dignitas, they were giving and giving. With the process, I realized I also have a role to play. It’s not just about receiving, I also have to give. It makes a difference if you don’t just wait for other people to do things! They won’t be there forever. They empower us to be responsible for our own schools!”

Collins has been teaching for six years. He loves seeing the children in Mathare prosper and knowing that they will have a brighter future because of their education.
“We are now able to communicate well and have good rapport with each other. Now, when a class is not doing well or if we are stuck, we first come together to consult with our teachers before reaching out to Dignitas.”

Moses was initially a trainer in peace and capacity building, who was passionate about starting up a feeding center for children. Eventually, his vision grew beyond just feeding children to educating them, and the Excellence School was born. He recognizes partnering with Dignitas as a turning point for him and his school.
“I started working with Dignitas while we were still on our journey of transition. With Dignitas’ help, I was able to change things I wouldn’t have thought to do so soon in terms of teacher education, leadership skills, class management and school support. Before Dignitas, many organizations would come to us, talk to us and conduct trainings, but there was no real impact. After Dignitas, we are now empowered to do things ourselves.”
