We have a fantastic team at Dignitas and we would love to introduce you to each member over the coming months.

Today, we meet Angela Stawa, our new Finance & Operations assistant, who joined the team in August 2016. Welcome, Angela!

What is your role at Dignitas? My work at Dignitas as the Finance & Operations Assistant involves ensuring a smooth, highly conducive and resourced work environment for everyone.

What were you doing before you joined Dignitas? Prior to working for Dignitas, I worked with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) Kenya as a field assistant in education assessment projects in schools along the Kenyan Coast.

This is where I became passionate about making a positive change in our society whether directly or indirectly hence developed an interest to join Dignitas and be part of the team that transforms education in Kenya.

My favorite thing about Dignitas is the unique nature of our approach in transforming education in Kenya.”

Do you have a favorite educational moment in your own history?

I grew up in Likoni, an informal settlement adjacent to the shorelines of Mombasa County, Kenya. My favorite education moment was emerging not only the best candidate in KCPE* 2002 in Likoni but also the first girl in my community’s history to emerge at the top and with the highest scores ever achieved. Hence I became a mentor to many girls in Likoni who looked up to me for motivation and inspiration.

*The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education is a certificate awarded to students after completing the approved eight-year course in primary education in Kenya.

What are you doing when you are not working at Dignitas?

When am not working at Dignitas I am learning and practicing sign language.
