We believe school leadership teams have the potential to drive positive learning and well-being gains for learners, therefore investing in the education workforce is investing in children.  Ensuring the right support and development opportunities for every school leader and teacher will ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

By ensuring a focus on the often under-utilized lever of school leadership, Dignitas ensures school transformation not only targets learning and well-being gains, but is sustainable and supported for the longer term.

We know from educational research that school leaders have a very important effect on educational outcomes and the influence of quality school leadership on student achievement is stronger in adverse circumstances.  We also know that investing in school leaders is one of the more cost-effective ways of improving educational outcomes.

Stawisha is a Swahili word that means to flourish. I have so far flourished because of this program. Knowing that learners have different learning styles has helped improve my questioning techniques, hence differentiated instruction and therefore all learners feel catered for.

Since I joined the program, my teaching approach has never been the same. I have endeavoured to implement most of the things we have learnt from Stawisha training. For example, after learning about child protection policies, I engaged my fellow staff members on the need to have two child protection policies, one for any visitor to our school and one for the staff members.

Ever since Dignitas we have seen real changes with the school. It is now spreading to other teachers who first saw the Professional Learning Communities as too much work. Now we are able to share what we learnt from Dignitas, that is why our school is now more organized. The children are also understanding lessons in class better. The methods we learnt are so helpful for class management. I would like to enroll myself and my teachers in another Dignitas program.

Before our school joined Dignitas, there is a lot we didn’t know. We had challenges relating with pupils and interacting with parents. Teacher-to-teacher relations were also very poor. Ever since we did Stawisha, my teachers are having positive collaborations, the Professional Learning Communities are really helping. Their approach to learners has changed, they plan their lessons much better and they even relate better with parents.

I have attended so many training sessions, and there is none like Stawisha. It has had the most impact on my teaching career. After going through the content on child protection, and building relationships with learners, I realized there was a huge gap in our school. I started paying attention to learners to know how they are doing. Soon, learners stopped fearing me. Out of all the content we have covered, child protection is the one that has had a lot of impact on me. I am now in charge of child protection in our school.

Teaching is not about standing in front of class and talking, it’s about having fun in class. I have learnt to put my pupils first. I apply the strategies I learnt from Dignitas every day, in all my classes.
