January is often a slow month, with people struggling to find their way, recover from the festive season and figure out how to pay the bills in 2019! However, at Dignitas, when the office opened up for the New Year, we hit the ground running! There is a lot for us to be excited about in 2019, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
As I speak, our team is out in the field, meeting our new school partners for our Ustadi School Leadership Institute which we are running in partnership with Global School Leaders. The team will be visiting 30 shortlisted schools in Nairobi, mainly in the Dandora area, to help them select the final 25 new school partners. During this exercise the team will conduct due diligence checks, observe classroom lessons and get to know the teachers and school leaders at each school. We have already recruited 25 schools in Laikipia North for the Ustadi School Leadership Institute and we are excited about this new area of growth. The first Ustadi Leadership Academies are already scheduled for later this month!

The team is also busy putting the finishing touches on the Stawisha Instructional Leadership Institute curriculum for 2019, which will target up to 480 School Leaders and Teacher Leaders. We have already begun mapping schools for this, and have held a series of community meetings across Nairobi to share the program, and engage important local stakeholders. We hope to have 96 new Stawisha school partners selected by March 2019.
One of the highlights of December was the opportunity to come together as a team, reflect on 2018 progress, and look forward to what 2019 might hold. The entire team participated in a thorough strategic planning exercise, and we now have a list of 18 strategic objectives that the team will be working towards in the coming year that have allowed January 2019 to get off to a roaring start! These are summarized below:

As you can see, if you’re an avid Dignitas fan, this builds on our 2018 strategy which was GIVE (Grow, Influence, Value, Engage) and challenges us with slightly broader goals for 2019.
With GIVES guiding our planning and actions for 2019, we are already seeing exiting plans for community engagement, government advocacy and improved schools coming together.
We’d love for you to jump into 2019 with us! Please get in touch and let us know how you’d like to be involved! Donate, volunteer or think about other ways you or your organization might partner. Let’s grow together in 2019!
