What a year 2020 was! It was certainly not the year we planned for, in any regard. Whilst 2020 presented numerous challenges, and added many layers of complexity to our work, it was also a year for us to learn and grow, and we’re extremely grateful for all the opportunities we had to thrive throughout the year.
When the year began, we never would have imagined that nationwide school closures would have persisted for ten months, or that we’d still be battling the pandemic in 2021. With Kenya’s first case of COVID19 announced in March 2020, we followed the government’s directive and took immediate action to keep our team and partners safe.
Our team did a stellar job of working from home, and their passion, determination and grit has ensured that we continue to work together to keep all children safe and learning. As you will read in the report, our team crafted an urgent and impactful response to the school closures, designed with our most vulnerable learners, schools, and communities in mind; and leaning on our core belief that school leaders are powerful agents of positive transformation within their communities. Our Leaders of Learning program trained 560 school leaders, and reached almost 12,000 learners during school closures as a result.
We are extremely grateful to all of those who partnered with us, and made our work in 2020 possible. Thank you to our partners who offered unwavering support and truly walked with us as we gave our all to support learners and their families through an unprecedented year.
